How can I gain the confidence to get more done?
Write a list and tick something off
Such a simple idea but one that can make a difference because our confidence is often sapped by the idea that we’re stuck in a kind of stasis with seemingly impossible and conflicting demands so keen to get our attention that we feel unable to do anything! One route out of this is to simply list what needs to be done and then choose the simplest thing and do it. It might be something as simple as ‘buy deodorant’ or ‘check dog food’ or ‘change that light bulb’. Go for the simplest thing and do it and then you have one less thing to worry about.
Often people find that the act of listing robs those myriad thoughts of much of their ability to confound and confuse us because we exaggerate things in our mind and once we focus on them by writing them down they become less scary.
You might also find that, after a while some things seem to remain on your list when everything else is ticked off, so you can then ask yourself why you don’t want to do them – could it be because they are challenging or are they things that should never have been on the list in the first place; perhaps its something that you want or need to do but you recognise that now isn’t the right time?
